What is your metabolic rate? Your metabolic rate is the most important thing that gets you to lose weight or maintain your weight. It’s the number of calories that your body burns every day. So knowing your metabolic rate is extremely important if we’re going to get you to lose or maintain weight. We obtain this number when we put you on our BCA (Body Composition Analysis) scale, but your basal metabolic rate can be affected by so many things. Number one: your muscle mass – which is the amount of muscle you have. So for example men are always going to have an easier time losing weight than women because they have much more muscle, and muscle burns a lot more calories.

The next thing we want to consider is how physically active you are. Do you do aerobic activities? The higher your muscle mass and the more you exercise, the more calories you burn at rest.

The other thing that can affect our metabolic rate is the foods that we eat. Many processed foods that we eat today in fast food restaurants or even things we buy from the grocery store in boxes and bags have a lot of chemicals in them. And a lot of these chemicals such as MSG and other constituents can make us very hungry and that can slow our metabolic rate. As we become hungrier, we gain weight and that’s the worst thing that can happen to us. Diabetes is another thing that can slow our metabolic rate, so can a lot of other chronic diseases like hypertension, hypothyroidism, and heart disease. Hence these are all the things that can lower your metabolic rate and make it more difficult for you to lose weight, and cause weight gain.
